The Johannes-Althusius-Gymnasium (JAG) Emden is a general secondary school preparing students aged 10 to 19 for Higher Education. It is quite a large school with 1,116 students in 2016/17, 592 of which are female and 524 male. The staff encompasses 87 teachers and 9 trainee teachers. The Johannes-Althusius-Gymnasium is located in the port and industrial town of Emden (50,216 inhabitants) in the region of East Frisia in the North-West of Germany. The by far most important employer in the region is Volkswagen with its car assembly plant in Emden. Our school is thus predestined to host the project’s fourth Learning-Teaching-Training Activity on “Sustainable Mobility in Europe 2030”. With our two external partners, Volkswagen Academy Emden (the company’s local vocational centre) and the Faculty of Technology at Emden University of Applied Science, and cycling- and public-transport-friendly Netherlands on the doorstep, we are able to offer a very rich and enlightening environment to explore the sustainable mobility of the future. The Johannes-Althusius-Gymnasium is the project’s coordinating school. Its strong commitment to European cooperation and Erasmus+ is also reflected in the fact that “Sustainable Europe 2030” is already the school’s fifth European school partnership project since 2007.
